A Day in the Life of Jesus
In a world where countless voices compete for our attention and everyone claims to be an authority, how do we recognize true authority when we encounter it? As we study a portion of the Gospel of Mark, we'll step into a remarkable day in the life of Jesus Christ. But what set Jesus apart from the other religious leaders of His day? It wasn't merely what He taught but the unmistakable authority with which He taught it. Join Tom Pennington from the Gospel of Mark as he helps us understand A Day in the Life of Jesus.

All the World's a Stage
The ideas that shape our culture are often far older than we realize. From the ancient philosopher Protagoras' declaration that "man is the measure of all things" to today's widespread belief that life is ultimately about personal fulfillment, the influence of human-centered thinking remains powerful. Yet Scripture presents a radically different perspective: we are not the center of the universe—God is. Join Tom Pennington as he explores Ephesians 2 to help us see that in God's plan of redemption, All the World's a Stage.

War and Peace: Learning to Deal with Conflict
Historians tell us that out of thousands of years of recorded history, humanity has experienced only a few centuries of peace—and the Bible reveals why: the deepest wars are not merely fought between nations but within the human heart of every person. Today, as we begin exploring James 4, Pastor Tom helps us discover that the source of our quarrels, arguments, and broken relationships is far closer than we often realize. Rather than pointing the finger at others, the Bible challenges us to examine ourselves and uncover the sinful desires that fuel conflict in every area of life. Join Tom Pennington from James 4 as we consider the theme of War and Peace: Learning to Deal with Conflict.

For His Eyes Only: Giving to the Glory of God
In Matthew chapter 6, Jesus addresses the three great pillars of Jewish piety: giving, praying, and fasting. But He begins with a staggering warning against the sin of hypocrisy—practicing our righteousness before men to be noticed by them. Our Lord teaches that those who perform for the applause of the crowd have no reward from their Father in heaven. Join Tom Pennington as he considers the Sermon on the Mount and a Christian perspective on giving—For His Eyes Only: Giving to the Glory of God.

The Church: Monarchy, Anarchy, or Democracy?
What does Scripture say, if anything, about the government and structure of Christ's church? Do local churches have the freedom to run their church in any way they please? Unfortunately, we live in an age where a biblical ecclesiology is often neglected and the latest trends of the day are accepted. It is critical in this hour to recapture what the Bible teaches about the structure of the church. Thankfully, God has spoken on this very issue in His word and He requires every church to follow what has been written. Join Tom Pennington as he explains what the Bible says about government of The Church: Monarchy, Anarchy, or Democracy?

No Condemnation
Unfortunately, many Christians struggle with the assurance of salvation. In other words, Christians often waver in their confidence as it relates to their eternal salvation and security in Christ. Paul's point in Romans 8 is that a Christian's salvation, eternal security, and eternal safety rests not in human efforts, but in blessings that originate from all three persons of the Trinity. Put this way, assurance of salvation is richly trinitarian. From Romans 8:1–4, Tom Pennington explains how Christians can be assured of their salvation, specifically because in Christ there is No Condemnation!

The Church in God's Eternal Plan
Throughout the centuries there have been many theological debates concerning matters of the church: When did the church begin? How does the church fit into God's plan of redemption? What is the relationship between Old Testament Israel and the New Testament church? These are all important questions, and the answers to such questions impact how Christians are supposed to conduct themselves in the local church and in the world around them. Join Tom Pennington as he surveys the Scripture to provide a framework to properly understand The Church in God's Eternal Plan.

Power Over Temptation
It is impossible to fully grasp the depths of what transpired in the Judean wilderness during Satan's three-fold temptation of Jesus Christ. Thankfully, in those temptations we as Christians find hope in two senses: Jesus successfully overcame every temptation, and He has shown believers how to overcome temptation as well. In other words, Jesus Christ has given us a pattern for dealing with temptations by giving us the necessary actions to overcome them. From Matthew 4, Tom Pennington explains how Christians can have Power Over Temptation.

Jesus' Baptism of Repentance
Many Christians have no idea why Jesus—the perfect Son of God—was baptized with a baptism of repentance. In other words, if Jesus did not sin, why would He partake in a baptism that was connected with repentance and sins? Furthermore, Jesus' baptism also had to do with forgiveness of sins. So, why was He baptized? Join Tom Pennington as he answers such questions by taking an in-depth look at Mark's account of Jesus' Baptism of Repentance.

Cultivating a Thankful Heart
Do you consistently express thankfulness and gratitude towards God? In other words, is your life characterized by a thankful heart towards Him? Psalm 50 deals with these very questions by presenting two corrections for His true people: First, God diagnoses the sinful thinking that characterizes His people—it ultimately destroys their thanksgiving. Second, God prescribes the simple changes that will restore His true people with a grateful and dependent heart. Join Tom Pennington as he teaches from Psalm 50 on how God's people should be Cultivating a Thankful Heart.
